Enjoying the outside

April 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Finally, it’s spring! We can go outside without a blanket, it’s sunny, and rainy. It’s my favorite time of year. River is enjoying it too! Walks, and time outside seem to actually keep him up later which is nice. I like playing with my baby instead of putting him to bed at 5:30!

Otherwise, we went to the Doctor today and his ears are good. Hopefully they stay that way! He is back crawling around, playing with his toys and eating dog food. Gotta love it!

Ear Infections

April 19, 2008 · 1 Comment

Well, this is one thing Kyle and I were not prepared for- ear infections. These last 2 weeks we have been battling with an ear infection now in both of River’s ears. With the infection he has had high temps and difficult nights. Let alone both of us have had to take off work to stay home with him! All of you that have family around you are very lucky! It’s hard to do  this all on your own especially when you have to leave work so often.

He is getting better- now on a higher dose of drugs, his ears seem to be clearing up. But because of this we are going to take another approach to healing. I have been told my many people that chiropractors and more holistic medicine can wok wonders for children, so that is our next step. Pumping our little 19lb baby full of drugs is NOT what I want to do, so we are finding alternatives!

Below is a picture of our stove (since our fridge is not magnetized). It was a great idea we got from Jenia and Eric, especially since all our family is so far away! Plus it’s River’s favorite place to pull up and play, so he gets to see his family’s faces every day!

Warm weather

April 13, 2008 · 1 Comment

Well, since Hawaii River (and the rest of us here in Minnesota) have seen pretty crappy weather. Fortunatly, this Sunday afternoon gave us hope. It started this morning in the 20’s and got up to the 50’s (in the sun at least). It was a nice change so Mom and babe went on a walk to Hogan Brothers and around town. Spring seems to have finally sprung

.

Whew! It’s getting hot out here!

A few videos of mobile river

April 6, 2008 · 3 Comments

This first video is River about 2 and a half weeks ago… right when he figured out how to move and crawl…

The next one is from this afternoon and how he has mastered this new way of living!

Lastly here is one of him pulling up! He has obviously figured the up part, now he is working on the down part!

Finger food, grandma visits, books and birthdays

April 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Okay, I know this is a crazy title but I there’s a lot going on here in River’s world.

First off, finger foods. River seems to have gotten past the baby food stuff and moved right on to the world of finger foods. He rarely seems to even let a spoon get near his face, which is such a bummer since we have all this great, organic, home-blended baby food. Guess Kyle and I can snack on it every once in awhile. Just kidding. :)

Second, Grandma Sandy is in town since I had my doctorate class this weekend and a babysitter is needed- family sure are the best ones to take care of babies when the parents are gone! Thank you Sandy!

Third, books have been an absolute favorite of River’s lately. All he ever wants to do is turn those pages, look at those pictures and have us read to him! (Even if it is only a menu!:)

Lastly, today we went and celebrated Annie Strom’s 1st birthday with her and her family and friends. It was so much fun seeing those two crawl around and play together! Yes, River is crawling and getting into everything, even dog food! (yummy) I’ll put up a video soon…

Oh, and the nursing/weaning thing is going ok, I’m trying to make it as gradual as possible even with all of my “issues”. Gunna miss it though…. it’s a special thing between a mama and her babe.

I guess it’s time to wean…

April 2, 2008 · 1 Comment

Well, the time has come. Not by my choice (kinda) and not by River’s, but my head and body. Since he returned from Hawaii I have been able to nurse most of the time, but it’s totally hit or miss. I feel like I am having mini anxiety attacks every time I sit down with the pump and even with him. This has caused emotional termoil in my brain and heart because I wanted to do this on our own terms. I am going to keep trying to nurse when I am relaxed and full, but I know  that won’t happen forever. So, the time has come.

I am thankful for these past 9 months of wonderful nursing. It has brought me so close to my baby and I am so happy that things had gone so well. He is a happy and healthy baby- laughing all of the time! I will miss this special time, but as we all know, it has to happen sometime!

For all those nursing mothers out there just be prepared that if anything like this happens to you, your emotions and hormones will be out of wack! So please bear with me these next few weeks…
