This weekend, well, it was supposed to be magical. But it ended up being more than I ever expected.
River, Kyle and I spent this past Wednesday-Sunday (today) in Disneyworld, aka: the most magical place on earth. I can’t even begin to describe the special times that we had together, it makes me want to cry just thinking about it. Those of you who know me well know that I am a Disney fanatic. I often contemplate my chosen profession and wonder if I made the right choice… since working with Disney seems much more desirable. Honestly, it baffles me how much I love that place. I am truly, and completely a child every time I arrive on Mickey Mouse’s front steps. Being with River this time just made it that much more exciting. I mean, who doesn’t want someone to share his or her excitement with?
Some highlights from our time in Disneyworld would have to include,
-River’s first roller coaster ride (kid sized, but absolutely a roller coaster!) where he wanted to go again and again.
-Dinner with Nemo and fireworks at Epcot.
-The safari in Animal Kingdom.
-Playing at the pool at our hotel (Port Orleans, French Quarter). River discovered how fun going down the side by himself is! We couldn’t seem to get him out of the pool.
-Dinner with Mickey and friends at “Chef Mickey’s”. All the characters came around and greeted us at the table. No standing in long lines to see River’s favorites!
-Meeting up with Kyle’s cousin, Erin at Hollywood Studios. We had so much fun riding rides with her and catching up. It’s been way too long!
-Spending our last evening in Magic Kingdom and eating at Cinderella’s castle where River got to get hugs and kisses from some of our favorite princesses. It was a special time going back to the place where mommy and daddy got engaged!
While there Kyle and I commented that if this whole baby thing works out, this was a wonderful “last” vacation with just the three of us.
Little did we know how “last” it would be.
This morning, around 3am (about an hour and a half before our wake up call for our flight) we got a call from Utah, saying that the baby girl was born this morning around 1am.
So as of now, I’m on a flight heading to Salt Lake City.
Kyle and River are going back to Minnesota today, and then heading to Utah tomorrow. We obviously had no infant stuff with us in Disneyworld, so having them go back for the evening seemed like the best (and cheapest) option.
The beautiful baby, which we will name Autumn, (decision was made with the help of the birthmother) was born a few weeks early and was 5lbs, 8oz and 17 inches long. She’s a little squirt. And pending on tomorrow’s signing of the papers, she is our little squirt.
The difference with this adoption unlike the last failed ones is that once the birth mom signs the papers, it is done.
She has to wait 24 hours though before she signs. And no, I am not going to make the agency do it at 1am tonight. Most likely, if she signs the papers, it will be tomorrow morning.
Pray for all of us. Birth mom, baby girl, and Kyle, I and River.
Let’s see how truly magical this weekend can be.
